The Future of User Interfaces
UI is changing from a "monitor" type to something more "natural." We are already starting to speak with smart speakers, ask chatbots about the weather, perform tasks with our voices, and use gestures and eye movements, as with Apple Vision Pro.We no longer need to find an exact button hidden deep inside a submenu. Instead, we can simply express our intention, for example, "Set an alarm for tomorrow at 7 AM" - and our phone or computer will do it without requiring us to navigate through menus. AI is getting better at understanding our "natural" language.
The interesting thing is that UI could eventually "disappear." Even if it doesn't completely disappear, it will certainly undergo significant changes from what we know today.We already don't need a physical keyboard on our phones. The next step is that we may not need cascading menus either. Instead of traditional screens, we will use smart glasses with augmented or virtual reality, along with sensors that can interpret our facial expressions and gestures.This won't happen in the short term or in every area of computer software, because commands need to be recognized reliably and consistently. But I think it is coming sooner than we might expect.
