It's way more than just read the white paper thoughA project can look solid at face value based on what is written in the white paper, moreover AI can write a very convincing white paper these days.In 2017 ICO era, all you had was a white paper to decide whether to invest in that ICO... a number of projects came up with very shiny white papers with a lot of technical jargon, impressive teams and investors too and still most of them turned out to be a cash grab and delivered nothing after years.

Personally, I don't think this is as big of a problem as it sounds. By 2025, we've reached a level where old idealistic cyberpunk dogmas have been replaced by pragmatism and by using solutions that create opportunities for user onboarding and the development of the most usable platforms in the simplest possible way.Web3 doesn't mean total anonymity or that completely independent on-chain entities float around like ghosts in the ether behind unidentifiable NFT PFPs. If there's a simpler way to validate the humanity of users than having everyone visit a futuristic vein scanner machine (of which there's only one within a 1000 km radius), and scan their hand to generate on-chain data with a zk-proof solution, then so be it.I don't think adopting some of the proven solutions from the old world is a big problem. On the other hand, this can also happen in an encrypted way, and it doesn't mean that your phone number will be publicly visible everywhere from now on.And if they handle it privately, what’s the difference, really? You’ve already handed over all your personal data to CEXs, who can trace your entire on-chain activity from your withdrawals (not to mention the Coinbase incident happened a week ago). You’ve given your IP address to Infura, which they can hand over to any authority at any time. So why does it matter if you give your phone number to one more third party, especially if they handle it privately and in line with data protection regulations?
