Bots back?

33 Reactions11 Replies & Quotes

Great explanation, @mp. Maintaining an open network while controlling bots is inherently challenging. We developed ML tools to detect and mitigate bot activity, and we’re actively working on improving them. Given the limited visibility for the bots, they have little incentive to engage in spam, even through self-sponsorship.With v3, apps can implement their own moderation. They will have the ability to completely hide/ remove content posted by bots, but as a protocol, we should remain open!

Here's a high level explanation on how we work on fending off bots. Feedback is encouraged, especially if something is not clear:This is a permissionless network and everyone gets in. We have a tool called PQ (profile qualifier) that β€œrates” based on your social activity. The closer to 0 in the PQ, the higher the likelihood an account is a bot. When accounts have low rating, they get hidden, this is why you see so many hidden comments. That means the PQ and spam filters are working. As this is a censorship resistant and permissionless network, nobody can take accounts or posts down. So what we do is:A) hide activity based on PQB) at some point, if the account is a bot, the system stops sponsoring the posts - you won't be able to test it because by default, Lens sponsors your posts, but when someone (or something) is spamming or labeled as bot, the account is not sponsored anymore (aka they pay to post)Bots are evolving creatures tho. As any AI they β€œlearn” based on call and response and adapt their behavior - get smarter. So then you need to update the tools all the time. Which we do.Bots are being controlled, to the best of our ability and the machine learning tools of lens grow all the time.

LFG

We've spent a lot of time on building the Lens Chain stack, it took a bit of effort but here is the summary: GHO stablecoin as a gas token, zk proofs submitted to Ethereum, Avail DA to store the L2 state, horizontal scaling with ZKsync. We are going very low on fees.Decentralized storage is built-in so no need to worry about pinning or loosing content. Also enables onchain access control over content on decentralized storage. First time ever users/DAOs can manage data together offchain with onchain access control rules. Will be secured by Ethereum down the line. Also smart contract-based social primitives that can simply be plugged into any app: Feeds, Graphs, Groups, Usernames and all have rules engine to extend the smart contract-based rules.More contracts will be shipped. ICOs, governance and new token primitives and other fun things including DeFi.All apps will have support for gasless and signless with email or phone out of the box. We will start rolling all this out in the upcoming weeks.
