Here’s my submission for week 4’s “WIP.”(I hope I'm not too late.) It’s a clip from a special collaboration between me and my partner in Life and Art, @callmelatasha, during our first trip to LA in 2017, and it’s also a fun/tragic story.
Back In 2017, I was Latasha’s videographer and editor. We planned to shoot a video for her song "Fingerscrossed" from her BLAK album while we were in LA.
So we got all the equipment ready, flew out to LA, went on a sketchy hike in Elysian Park, and filmed the visual. After returning home to NY, I started editing the video. My usual routine was to edit the first 30 seconds, send it to Latasha so she could get a sense of the vibe, get feedback, and keep going. So, I took this clip and sent it via Dropbox before leaving for work. She watched and loved it, so now the task was to come home and finish up, but life had other plans.
When I got back home to edit, I turned on my computer and saw that my hard drive containing the footage and the project file crashed. All the files were corrupted, so the only thing we had from the video was this 29-second clip; it bummed us out, but we’ve gone on to create more beautiful pieces of art together, so this clip is an ode to our perseverance.
PS: Since then I’ve been backing up our works on multiple hard drives
