aave, a crypto lending protocol, froze new deposits and loans in 175 v3 markets on october 29 after a binance-hack-linked wallet borrowed there. borrowing costs then climbed. ethereum usdt loans went from 5.36% to 9.91% a year in about 12 hours, and usdc went from 5.19% to 8.89%. high rates usually pull in new lenders, but frozen markets cannot take deposits. existing borrowers pay more and cannot add collateral there. risk advisor llamarisk proposed temporary rate cuts.

the binance attacker sold tracked positions in seven tokens worth about $158m for 70,480 eth. the tokens were uni, ena, pepe, link, aave, ondo and wld. one wallet sold all 7.77t pepe it got, in 94 trades, so that source of pepe selling is gone. this does not show all its tokens are sold. it still holds about $3.2b, mostly eth and btc. it is not known if it will sell these.
