I just created my first club on @orb! Join /views to share your current or favorite views and vistas! 🌄👀
In the process of creating a club on Orb, I learned a lot and want to share my experience with you all. 📚
First, I spent the last month organically exploring the ecosystem of clubs on Orb—posting, commenting, replying, and joining clubs that caught my interest. 🌐
Next, I identified clubs that were missing from the ecosystem. I came up with a list of 10 clubs that I believe would benefit the community and provide new avenues for people to share. ✨
I then did some research to ensure there were no existing clubs covering the same scope I wanted to start. 🔍
Feeling confident, I began the process of creating my own club by pressing the search/explore button and hitting ‘create.’ I meticulously chose a club logo and cover photo. 🖼️
After that, I was prompted to add an ‘About’ section for the club, create a club handle, add any corresponding links, choose a club type (public or restricted), add club topics (ranging from food and travel to coding and NFT art), and lastly, set up club revenue—a feature I needed to fully understand. 💬💰
Clubs on Orb have built-in treasuries where members can contribute through paid posts. Club revenue settings allow you to set a minimum percentage of revenue received from mints within the club. While the default revenue percentage is 10%, I noticed that some of my favorite clubs choose not to take a minimum percentage. So, for my first club, I decided to set the minimum to 0%. I believe /views should be free from monetary obligations, with the hope that its growth and longevity will be organically supported by its members. 💡
Once I had dialed in all my club-specific options, I hit a small snag at the final step when pressing ‘create’. I took a screenshot of the error and posted my issue in /orb, and quickly got a response from the community.
What I learned is that you cannot create a club without a balance of @lens’ native token, $BONSAI. Specifically, you need approximately $10 worth of $BONSAI for handles longer than 4 characters, $20 worth for handles 4 characters in length, and $30 worth for handles 3 characters in length. Big shoutout to @what_is and @sankalpk for their help and alpha!
I then embarked on a journey to fund my Orb wallet with $BONSAI. While I hope the process gets easier, here’s how I did it in a nutshell:
1️⃣ Converted $ETH to $MATIC
2️⃣ Swapped $MATIC for $BONSAI on ‘bonsai.meme’ using the correct contract address 🕵🏾‍♂️
3️⃣ Sent $BONSAI to my Orb wallet to fund my account 💸
Side note: I made a post about my difficulty loading my wallet with $BONSAI and found out the latest @orb update (dropped this week) allows you to easily swap crypto for $BONSAI with Relay saving everyone time, money, and any potential headaches. Shoutouts to @dee_centralized, @what_is, and @orb for putting me on! 🧠
Once I had $BONSAI in my wallet, I went through the process of creating my club again. After a fee of 1711.26 $BONSAI (approximately $10.5 USD), this time it was a success, and voilà—/views was born! 🛠️
I hope this helps demystify the process of starting a club on Orb! If you made it this far, don’t forget to join and post on /views! 🌟
