Why I believe that Bitcoin is less decentralized than Ethereum:- No client diversity so Bitcoin Core is effectively the protocol spec- 2 KYC'd mining pools in the U.S are the biggest pools- PoW inherently centralizes over time due to economies of scale- Impossible to mine at home profitably (has been for long time)- No long-term security budget once mining rewards become too low in 2-3 more halvings (will lead to even more mining centralization and eventually spawn camp attacks)- Very few active core developers left (less than 5?)- Social layer is more "unified" in a single message (digital gold) so diversity of thought is limited I am not concern trolling here- just outlining things as I see them - here's how I think Ethereum fares on each point: - Ethereum has 10+ clients that are all independent and have long-term funding via[@ProtocolGuild](https://x.com/ProtocolGuild)- Comparing staking and mining pools is not 1:1 so I won't do that here but I will say that Ethereum at least has in-built punishment (slashing) for bad actors and soon will have correlation penalties to disincentivize centralized pooling- PoS can centralize over time, but it doesn't have the same economies of scale as PoW- You can solo stake at home profitably (and for less than 32 ETH with @Rocket_Pool@Obol_Collective and others)- Ethereum has tail issuance so its long-term security budget is fine (it also has ways to generate way more fee revenue than Bitcoin + offset the issuance with the burn)- Ethereum has 170+ active core developers and researchers- The social layer of Ethereum is way more fragmented (hence people saying Ethereum has no "north star") which allows for much more diversity of thought + innovation To top it all off, Ethereum's decentralization has been tested at-scale with the Tornado Cash sanctions from OFAC. This has pushed Ethereum to work on even better censorship-resistance with heavy research into inclusion lists (FOCIL) and other related areas. As far as I know, there has only been sanctions on a few single Bitcoin addresses over the years rather than anything on a large scale - the closest thing I can think of is probably when China kicked Bitcoin miners out of the country. This tweet is not exhaustive and doesn't cover every property of what I believe makes a chain decentralized, but I am of course open to thoughtful and intelligent rebuttals to my points.
